North Hagerstown Lions selling bonus books

The North Hagerstown Lions Club is selling $32 Bonus Books, valid through Dec. 1, 2012, with hundreds of coupons, discounts or buy one, get one free opportunities in the Tri-State area. The coupons are for casual, leisure, fast-food/carryout dining, recreation, travel, lodging and other businesses.

Coats for children

For the 25th year, the North Hagerstown Lions Club is collecting Coats for Kids. Drop boxes for coats will be at Valley Mall (near Sears), Richards World of Travel on Potomac Avenue and Always Ron’s on Burhans Boulevard through Jan. 9.  

Items are being accepted for all ages, newborn to adult. Coats will be given to two Washington County nonprofit agencies: Children In Need and The Parent-Child Center.

Losses for the week totaled 38 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077.

Janice Frye and Betty Jones were the best TOPS losers. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Jean Betker, Mildred Hluchy and Delores Hays. Darla Hartley won the ha-ha prize. The no-no snack this week is chips.

Mary Jo Cunningham and Dottie Zimmerman are conducting this month’s contest titled “The Stockings Were Hung.”

Cunningham presented the program on food exchanges and reported on her recent attendance at the TOPS retreat.  Patsy Price gave an inspirational reading on “Thankfulness.”

A total of 297 items were collected for the hats, gloves and scarves drive. The items will be distributed to Head Start and local elementary schools.

As part of her program on losing one’s “fat-itude,” Mary read a list of several weight- loss tricks. She was also the thinner winner of the week, having lost 2.4 pounds.

On Wednesday, weigh-in will be from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. The chapter Christmas party will follow at 11 a.m. at Always Ron’s.
