The Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce Foundation Inc., in cooperation with Washington County Public Schools, recognizes men and women who serve in a teaching capacity and who work to ensure educational excellence in Washington County.

One top public school teacher will be named the Teacher of the Year from Washington County Public Schools to represent Washington County in the Maryland State Teacher of the Year awards program.

Anyone who has observed or benefited from a teacher’s skill and excellence is encouraged to nominate that individual. Students, parents, community organizations, businesses, colleagues, and administrators are encouraged to submit nominations.

Nominations for the 2012-13 Teacher of the Year are being accepted through Friday, Jan. 6. Download a nomination form at www.wcps.k12.md.us/faculty_staff/educator_of_the_year.

To be nominated, a teacher must be in a full-time position, spending most of his or her time teaching students, have a minimum of five years teaching experience and remain in a teaching position during the school year following his or her nomination.

The annual dinner and recognition, sponsored by the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce Foundation, will be held April 25, 2012, at Fountain Head Country Club.
