Bernice Ward Bowers, 92, of Williamsport, Md., passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at Homewood Retirement Center.

Born July 24, 1919, in Halfway, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clayton Elmer and Irene Agnes Smith Neikirk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Newton Bowers, in 2006.

She was a 1937 graduate of Williamsport High School.

Bernice owned and operated Flameless Heating Supply Co. with her husband until retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

Bernice is survived by a daughter, Fran I. Wishard, and her husband, Wayne; and a son, Robert L. Bowers, and his wife, Virginia, both of Hagerstown, Md.; grandson, Darren Wishard, and his wife, Paula Dixon; granddaughter, Kelli Nunnally and her husband, Paul; grandson, Lynn Robert Bowers, and his wife, Cathie, all of Hagerstown; and granddaughter, Michelle Zipse-Bruner and her husband, Clay, of Overland Park, Kan.; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. W. Gregory Martin officiating.

Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Tuesday for the convenience of family and friends.
