Thumbs up, Thumbs Down - Dec. 10

December 10, 2011

Thumbs up to volunteers from a Washington Township, Pa., committee who are working to create a Sept. 11 memorial that includes steel beams from the World Trade Center in Red Run Park near Waynesboro, Pa. The memorial looks to be a fitting tribute to those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks. We hope businesses and residents will support the effort after a final design is approved.

Thumbs up to the Martinsburg (W.Va.) High School football team and coaches for recently completing its second straight, undefeated state championship season. Whether or not you are a fan of the Bulldogs, you have to respect and admire what they've accomplished over the past two seasons.

Thumbs up to the outstanding student-athletes being honored this week in The Herald-Mail's all-Washington County teams. Like in life, success on the playing fields takes more than just talent — it requires hard work, dedication and determination, to name a few. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and teams who gave their all this fall.

Thumbs up to all those who give countless hours directing and coordinating the large number of musical productions this holiday season. These include school, church and community concerts that the public can enjoy. Sharing one's musical gifts is a great way to show your holiday spirit. Thanks!

Thumbs up to all those who coordinate and support the hospital tree lighting endeavors in the Tri-State area during the holidays. These fundraisers in Hagerstown, Waynesboro, Pa., and Chambersburg, Pa., generate tens of thousands of dollars for important machines in the hospitals and to help people without insurance.
