Joseph J. Souders, 74, of Hagerstown, Md., entered into eternal rest Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family.
Joseph was born in Hagerstown on July 11, 1937. He was the son of Rachel Rowland Souders of Mount Lena and the late Rev. Joseph R. Souders.
He graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1955.
Joseph retired from Pangborn Corporation in 2000 after 38 years of service.
He was of the Protestant faith.
His love and contribution was country music. He played with various groups during the fifties through seventies in the Hagerstown area.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Marie Beittel Souders; two sons, Jeff L. Souders and wife, Marianne, and John L. Souders and Angela Bailey; two grandsons, Tyler Souders and Zach Anderson; five granddaughters, Lauren Souders, Samantha Jo Souders, Jessamyn Souders, Brandy Anderson and Holly McDonald and husband, Lake. He is also survived by his mother, Rachael Souders of Mount Lena; sisters, Anna Needy of Hagerstown, Janice Wilt and husband, Mike, of Mount Lena, and Betty Schwarz and husband, Louis, of Webster Groves, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert C. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
