Police seek information on SUV believed to have caused six-vehicle crash on I-81

December 10, 2011

Maryland State Police are looking for information on a vehicle believed to have caused a six-vehicle collision on Interstate 81 Friday just south of the Pennsylvania state line.

Police said in a news release that the collision happened Friday around 3:38 p.m.

A black Ford Explorer with Maryland tags abruptly applied brakes while traveling in the fast lane of northbound I-81, then turned into the center median crossover and onto southbound I-81 without stopping, police said.

The driver's abrupt action started a chain-reaction collision involving six vehicles that were traveling behind the Explorer, police said.

No injuries resulted from the collision, but police are requesting assistance identifying the Ford Explorer.

The tag number given to police was checked through the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration and could not be located, police said in the release.

Anyone with information on the explorer may call Senior Trooper Doug Bittinger at 301-739-2102.
