1. It'll be a blue Christmas

A Blue Christmas in Blue Ridge Summit will be Saturday, Dec. 17.  Activities include: 4 to 6 p.m. firetruck rides by Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Department, horse and carriage rides, open house at Blue Ridge Summit Free Library, refreshments, hands-on craft for kids at the library, songs of the season by Rich Fehle and others, door prizes; 6 p.m. tree lighting ceremony, bring an ornament to be placed on the tree in honor of a loved one, Cadette Girl Scout Troop 80882 will perform a liturgical dance. At the Church of Transfiguration, 6:30 p.m. Appalachian Wind Quintet concert, 7 p.m. Victorian Christmas service, 7:30 p.m. special reading of letters written during the Civil War read by re-enactors from Cumberland Valley Rifles. 2. Home for the holidays

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra will present its Home for the Holidays concerts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at The Maryland Theatre, 21 S. Potomac St., downtown Hagerstown. The concerts will feature soprano Elisabeth Turchi, pictured, Hagerstown Choral Arts, Cumberland Choral Society and MSO vocal competition winner Louisa Tringali. 3. Pizza and two Potters

Smithsburg Library will host a movie and pizza party Friday, Dec. 16, at the library, 66 W. Water St., Smithsburg. Pizza is at 6:30 p.m.; first movie at 7 p.m. The evening features "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I and Part II" (PG-13). 4. Christmas in Williamsport

Williamsport Community Band will present its Christmas concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at St. James Brethren Church, 17718 Lappans Road, St. James. Call 301-223-6538.

5. The Christmas Star story
