Special Christmas service

The West End Baptist Chapel will hold a Christmas service Sunday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. The choir will present a cantata called “Worship the King.” The church is at 101 Buena Vista Ave. in Hagerstown.


Salem Avenue PTA news

The Salem Avenue Elementary School PTA holds its meetings in the school library on the first Thursday of every month and all parents are welcome to attend. This year, the PTA has also started free family movie nights on the second Friday of each month.

The next movie night will be Friday in the cafeteria, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Concessions will be sold.

All students must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a towel, blanket, pillow or sleeping bag to sit on.  



West Hagerstown Lions Club news

The West Hagerstown Lions Club pancake breakfast with Santa will be Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. at Girls Inc., 626 Washington Ave. Santa will be there with treats for the children from 9 to 10 a.m.  

Pancakes, eggs, sausage or pudding, juice and coffee will be available. Breakfast costs $5 per person and there is no charge for preschoolers.

Attendees are asked to bring used eyeglasses and hearing aids to donate to those in need.  

The ladies of the club will sell Christmas crafts during the breakfast and also at the Market House on Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18.

Many club members were out ringing the bell for The Salvation Army on Dec. 3.  

The club held its Christmas party Dec. 5 with Longmeadow Lions Club at Washington Square United Methodist Church. Each member donated two toys to The Salvation Army.



Winterfest planned

Marshall Street School and the Job Development Program’s annual Winterfest will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marshall Street School, 1350 Marshall St., Hagerstown.

There will be crafts, holiday decorations, gift wrapping, raffles, baked goods, sandwiches, soup, soda, coffee and doughnuts.

This year, the Springfield Middle School Show Choir will perform and there will be a storytelling segment.

In addition, the Marshall Street and Job Development students will perform musical selections and there will be sing-alongs.

Family members and friends are encouraged to come and enjoy the event.

The rain date is Monday, Dec. 12.
