Mail Call - Dec. 7

December 06, 2011

“I’m calling about the traffic and the way people drive. You know, you would think it was people driving fast or slow because of the use of the cellphone, but it’s not. It’s just plain idiots out there. They cut in front of you, they don’t use their turn signals. If it’s raining, they don’t have their headlights on. Common sense says these people shouldn’t be on the road. This is where the DMV ought to step in and test everybody every three years ... you see where people are tailgating people, people getting killed by somebody spinning somebody on the road. They blame it on the tractor-trailer driver. It’s not. It’s just plain idiots out there on the road.”
— Hagerstown

“How sad it is when so many people call David Limbaugh’s articles fantasy and makes fun of him, not realizing how smart the man is, and all the truths and everything that he says. One day people are going to realize, and he’s one of the best columns that we have in our Herald-Mail, and I would hope that they would never disqualify him. And he is a good man, and he’s very ... he knows what he’s talking about, and everybody have a good day.”

“Getting my mail late in the day doesn’t bother me. Finding pieces of my mail delivered to my neighbors on a regular basis, that bothers me.”
— Hagerstown

“I just want to comment on the investigation on Penn State. The only thing and the only good that’s going to come out of that is a bunch of rich lawyers.”
— Hagerstown

“It would be great to have a new modern senior center with a pool. But these are tough times. Why not smaller, easily accessible sites around the county? That would benefit so many more of our seniors. There is a Blockbuster building sitting empty on the Dual Highway, with convenient parking. And by the way, I have yet to see anyone using the bike lanes on the Dual.”
— Colonial Park

“See if I got this right. President Obama gets the credit for getting bin Laden because it happened on Obama’s watch. So (who) gets the credit for the drone attack that killed 24 soldiers? Maybe we could blame Bush again.”
— Smithsburg

“If you have been complaining about government waste, please do not bother us with complaints about your mail delivery service. The present post office business model is unworkable. The post office has asked for an $8 billion handout from the taxpayers, just to continue through this year. So you have a choice of either accepting reduced service or paying higher taxes to subsidize a wasteful operation. I’m not a teabagger, but I’m willing to accept slower mail delivery that pays its own way.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling about today’s Mail Call, Tuesday, Nov. 29, and this is in response to the Waynesboro, Pa., caller. Sir, tea partiers are not hypocrites, and we should not be out with those Wall Street Occupiers. The Constitution gives us the right to address, to assemble, address our grievances against the government, but it does not give us the right to destroy property, commit crimes, etc. That’s the difference between tea partiers ...”
— Kearneysville, W.Va.

“I would like to make a comment about the comment that was made about the illegal aliens, when they cross the border in different countries and then they cross the border in the U.S., and basically have everything given to them. I think that was dead-on, 100 percent correct, and I feel the same way and so many other people feel the same way. And if there was a Mail Call award at the end of the year, that person should get it.”
— Warfordsburg, Pa.

“OK, America, wake up and take a look at Europe and the eurozone and the euro dollar, which is about to collapse, and take heed of what may be coming to our great country here, if we don’t get our act together. Let’s make sure we get a country with a ... no more tax and spend, tax and spend. We need to get our act together. Government’s never produced anything.”
— Hagerstown

“Calling in reference to the mail delivery in Washington County. Our mail has definitely taken a turn for the worse. We are getting mail that is outdated by two to three weeks, magazines are coming three weeks late, coupons for the holiday season and the big sales, received two weeks late and now not usable. Somebody should think about taking and reimplementing the Frederick ...”
