Male struck during reported strong-arm robbery attempt

A male said he was struck in the side of the face during a strong-arm robbery attempt on East Washington Street, according to a Hagerstown Police Department spokesman.

The incident was reported Nov. 29, police said.

The victim told police he was walking in the 400 block of East Washington Street when he thought he heard people coming up behind him, Detective Sgt. Jim Hurd said.

The individual turned around and saw three individuals, Hurd said.
The man said he believes he was struck in the face by a heavyset black male wearing a red T-shirt, Hurd said.


The victim woke up on the ground a short time later and noticed his wallet was lying nearby.

The victim said he was not carrying anything of value, Hurd said.

The man walked to Meritus Medical Center and called police, Hurd said.

Handguns stolen in break-in

Three handguns were stolen after a house was broken into in the 21400 block of Leiters Mill Road, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The burglary was reported at 3:37 p.m. Monday, according to sheriff’s department reports.

It is unclear how the house was broken into or what type of handguns were stolen, Cpl. Detective Greg Alton said Tuesday.

Leiters Mill Road turns off Leitersburg Pike north of Hagerstown.
