Town refinances Shafer Park expansion

BOONSBORO — Boonsboro Town Council members Monday night approved refinancing a loan for an expansion to Shafer Park.

The expansion of the park included new ball fields, restrooms and other improvements.

The town had a line of credit construction loan for up to $2 million but only used $1.5 million, said Town Manager Debra Smith.

The loan was an interest-only loan with a balloon payment, but the refinancing allowed the town to get a fixed rate, Smith said.

The Susquehanna Bank loan has a 2.89 interest rate and extends for 10 years, Smith said.

Phase two of the park expansion includes additional parking and recreational areas, town officials have said.

There are other planned developments for the park, including an indoor pool, town officials have said.

Anonymous alleys might get names

BOONSBORO — Town officials are working to name unnamed alleys in Boonsboro, Boonsboro Town Council member Janeen Solberg said Monday night.

Officials are researching the historical background of the alleys and will work with town historian Doug Bast on possible names, Solberg said.
