Truckers help out humane society with 25 cases of unclaimed dog biscuits

December 05, 2011

When US Xpress Enterprises truckers Jason Connin and Nathan Jones had 25 cases of dog biscuits refused by a local retailer, they began asking where they could be donated. On Nov. 29, after calling the Humane Society of Washington County, they helped load the biscuits into an animal shelter truck.

"We really appreciate Jason and Nathan taking the time to call us and then help our folks load the biscuits into our vehicle," said Paul Miller, executive director of the shelter. "This is perfect timing. The biscuits will be used to make the holiday special for the dogs at the shelter."

Traveling back to Chattanooga, Tenn., the two men were pleased to be able to find a good home for the biscuits.

"They were refused and we thought you all might be able to use them," Connin said.

Jones added, "We are glad this worked out for both of us."

Humane society officials said they would like to thank everyone who has helped the shelter throughout the year with their donations.

The humane society is at 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown. Call 301-733-2060 or go to www.hswcmd.org for information about animal-related issues, directions to the shelter and information about programs and services.
