Harpers Ferry/Civil War Battlefields KOA

BILLINGS, Mont. — The Harpers Ferry/Civil War Battlefields KOA Campground was awarded the 2011 KOA President’s Award by Kampgrounds of America, the world’s largest system of family-friendly campgrounds.

The award was presented Nov. 8 at KOA’s annual International Convention in Las Vegas.

The KOA President’s Award is presented annually to campgrounds that receive high scores in customer service from their campers, and that receive top scores in KOA’s annual quality review.

KOA surveys hundreds of thousands of campers each year regarding their KOA camping experience.

Pocket Pair Poker League

Damion Rutherford, who recently relocated back to the area, launched an entertainment service company serving the Hagerstown community on Nov. 7.

Pocket Pair Poker League provides free entertainment and cash prizes for those playing the poker game, Texas Hold ’Em.

It’s free to play in the poker league, and players have the opportunity to win big money. This first season, $1,000 in cash prizes will be given away. That will grow as the league grows.

For the establishments that host the games, the league offers an affordable marketing service that brings repeat customers to their places of business.

Rutherford played in and ran games in a poker league in Virginia.

Games are played at 7 and 10 p.m. Mondays at New Delmar Inn, 16715 National Pike, Hagerstown; at 7 and 10 p.m. Tuesdays at Buffalo Wings & Beer, 1065 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown; and at 7 and 10 p.m. Wednesdays at McGee’s Tavern, 111 N. Conococheague St. in Williamsport.

There are no fees or buy-in rates to join the league. Each candidate applying for membership must be at least 21 years old.

A-Zone Environmental Service LLC, Strategic Resolution Experts Inc.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — A-Zone Environmental Service LLC, a small, woman-owned company, signed its first federal contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District.

A-Zone, based in Charles Town, W.Va., is a participant in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program. Its president and chief executive officer is Adrienne Morgan.

Strategic Resolution Experts Inc., a woman/veteran-owned small business, signed its first federal contract with the Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service.

SRE, owned by Jeannette King and headquartered in Martinsburg, W.Va., also is a participant in the SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program.

A signing recognition ceremony for both contracts took place at the Eastern Panhandle Entrepreneurs Forum on Nov. 3 at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center in Shepherdstown.

The $4 million sole-source contract for A-Zone was awarded for environmental remediation services within the Norfolk District.

The $167,000 sole-source contract for SRE was awarded for business modernization office, customer account data engine, project strategic planning and transition management support.

Robert Goldsack Hospitality Architect LLC

Robert Goldsack Hospitality Architect LLC in downtown Hagerstown designed two new restaurants opening in the region.

The Pita House Restaurant, in the historic downtown area of Alexandria, Va., includes a new exterior storefront, new interior design and new kitchen.

At Piero’s Corner Ristorante Italiano in Fairfax City, Va., the exterior of the building was reimaged, the dining room and lounge were remodeled, and a wood-burning pizza oven was added for display cooking, used to separate the dining room and lounge.

Both projects were reviewed and approved by the local Historic Architectural Review Boards.

Goldsack’s projects include restaurants and hotels, retail and Champion Boxing and Fitness, opening soon in Rockville, Md.
