WACO Spikefest on tap Saturday

PREP VOLLEYBALL

The sixth annual Spikefest, hosted by the Washington County Juniors Volleyball Club, will be held Saturday night at South Hagerstown High School.

The Washington County Eighth Grade All-Stars open the festivities at 6 p.m., with the Washington County Senior All-Stars following at 7:30. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students, with children under 5 admitted free.

The following players will be participating:

* Senior All-Stars: Boonsboro — Tiffany Rohrer. Clear Spring — Abigail Hoosier, Alexa Mills. Heritage Academy — Callie Butts, Jessica Gaylor. North Hagerstown — Autumn Fisher, Brynne Kirsch, Erika Lawrence, Mollie Johnson, Iman Scott. Smithsburg — Caitlyn Cramer, Karah Knight, Sarah Shives, Rachel Yoder. Williamsport — Sam Kelly, Ariah Giles, Summer Neff.

* Eighth Grade All-Stars: Boonsboro — Sadie Rowe, Katie Muse. Clear Spring — Jenna Smith, Courtney Myers. E. Russell Hicks — Hope Shindle, Katelyn Mehrling. Northern — Natalie Karlen. CUMBERLAND, Md. — Katie Connolly scored 20 points for the Lions (1-3) in Thursday’s Mason Dixon Christian Conference loss to Calvary.

Berkeley Springs 51, Goretti 33

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Deidra Burch had 18 points and nine rebounds and Berkeley Springs outscored St. Maria Goretti 15-0 in the first quarter on the way to victory in the opening round of the Berkeley Springs Tip-Off Classic.

Casey Solomon added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Indians (2-0), who will play Jefferson in the tournament final Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Jefferson defeated Warren County (Va.) 47-42 in Friday’s other game to advance to the final.

Brittany Napfel and Sydney Janez each had six rebounds for the Indians.

Severija Narkute had 12 points — all in the fourth quarter — for the Gaels (4-2), who will play Warren County in the consolation game Saturday at 6.
