Remember Pearl Harbor

Many readers might remember the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, but many might not even know about that day.

The Japanese successfully attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii during World War II. In a surprise attack, Japanese planes hit just before 8 a.m. Within a short time, five of eight battleships at Pearl Harbor were sunk or sinking and the rest were damaged. Several other ships and most Hawaii-based combat planes were also knocked out and more than 2,400 Americans were dead.

The attack on Pearl Harbor ignited Americans to end the war and to find peace. Dec. 7, 1941, is a date Americans need to remember and to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
