BOYS BASKETBALL
MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Yannick Zanfack knocked four 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 16 points to lead St. Maria Goretti past Mercersburg Academy 48-27 on Wednesday night.
It was the first basketball game contested in the Independent-Parochial Schools League, which also includes Saint James, Maryland School for Deaf and St. John’s Catholic Prep.
Martinas Geben added 10 points and six rebounds for the Gaels (3-2). Forest Buterbaugh had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Zanfack had six rebounds.
Mercersburg held a 17-16 halftime lead but the Gaels went to work in the second half with a 32-10 margin.
Patrick Ryan led Mercersburg (0-1) with 11 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers.

Lauree Lorensen had six rebounds for the Gaels (4-1).
