One man in custody after man shot in stomach near Harpers Ferry

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. — A man was shot in the stomach Tuesday night in the 100 block of Woodpecker Lane near Harpers Ferry, W.Va., West Virginia State Police said Wednesday.

The incident was reported at 7 p.m., when a caller told police that people causing a disturbance had gone, but might return with a gun, according to a state police news release.

When Trooper 1st Class J.M. Bush arrived at the scene, he noticed a pickup truck matching the vehicle description that was provided by the caller, then heard gunshots coming from the area of Woodpecker Lane as he approached the vehicle on foot, the release said.

The truck drove away and Bush pulled it over, the release said. He charged the driver, Stefanie Zavala, and passenger, Abraham Brooks, with one count each of conspiracy to commit wanton endangerment, according to the release.

While speaking to the occupants of the truck, Bush was approached by Clint Hendricks, who had been shot in the abdomen, the release said.

Hendricks was flown to a hospital in Fairfax County, Va., according to the release.

His condition was unavailable Wednesday morning.

Charles Richard Tibbs was charged with unlawful wounding.

He was being held in Eastern Regional Jail.
