City Park Lighting set for Friday night

November 30, 2011

The city of Hagerstown will host this year's City Park Lighting Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

At 7 p.m., the Christmas tree on the lake and silhouettes on the water will be illuminated and a reception will follow at locations in City Park.

The new lighted display is sponsored by the Columbia Bank, Hagerstown Trust Division and Verizon Wireless.

Approximately 1,500 luminarias will lead the trail through the park. Hospice of Washington County is selling luminaria, or candles in bags, to remember loved ones. The event is titled "Pathways of the Heart." The purchase of a luminaria kit costs a minimum donation of $5. Purchases can be made by calling 301-791-6360.

This year's Christmas tree is a 20-foot Blue Spruce donated by Ed Peters of Hagerstown.

A Hagerstown's Children's Theater choir will sing carols at the stage on Virginia Avenue during the event.

They will also sing at the Hager House, which will be the site of a winter petting zoo. Refreshments will be served courtesy of We Care Neighborhoods 1st and the Fairgrounds Crime Watch.

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will feature music, free refreshments and a scavenger hunt. The Antique Tractor Club will provide free hayrides to each location in City Park.

At the Mansion House Art Center, there will be music by the Rhinelanders German Band. Santa Claus will visit, and there will be free refreshments.

The event is sponsored by the city of Hagerstown and Chick-fil-A of Hagerstown. Master of ceremonies will be Lou Scally.
