WAYNESBORO, Pa. — The Waynesboro Area YMCA is bringing back its 12 Days of Christmas to thank members, welcome the public and support area organizations.

“The Y is about people. The Y is here to support the community, and the community supports us,” said Fran Britsch, member services manager.

Britsch oversees 12 Days of Christmas, a program that offers something for each day of the first dozen days of December, including:

• Thursday, Dec. 1 — Coat collection and American Red Cross blood drive.

Coats for Waynesboro Community and Human Services can be dropped off through Dec. 18. The goal is 500 coats. The blood drive is from noon to 6 p.m. Advanced registration is available, but not required.

• Friday, Dec. 2 — Food collection and letters to Santa.

Drop off letters to Santa, which will be answered by Dec. 20. Nonperishable food can be donated through Dec. 18 for Waynesboro Community and Human Services.

“If it’s one can or 20 cans, whatever we can spare can help someone else have a better Christmas,” Britsch said.

• Saturday, Dec. 3 — Craft fair.

Benefiting YMCA Partners with Youth, the craft fair supports youths that need financial assistance for Y membership.

• Sunday, Dec. 4 — Community day.

Facilities will be open for free access to the public from 1 to 4 p.m.

• Monday, Dec. 5 — Pets in need.

Donate supplies and food to the Antietam Humane Society.

“We like to keep our pets happy as well,” Britsch said.

• Tuesday, Dec. 6 — Adopt a family.

“I make little ornaments to put on the tree. People select an ornament and bring the gifts back,” Britsch said, noting that the family’s identity remains confidential.

• Wednesday, Dec. 7 — Caroling.

Child care classes will be caroling in the Y from 11 to 11:25 a.m. and 2 to 2:25 p.m.

• Thursday, Dec. 8 — Gymnastics trial.

Free gymnastics instruction for ages 4 to 18 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• Friday, Dec. 9 — Treat day.

Refreshments available to members throughout the day.

“That’s our way of thanking our members,” Britsch said.

• Saturday, Dec. 10 — Climbing wall day.

Free climbing on the Y’s 20-foot wall with signed waiver. Youth/teens climb from noon to 1 p.m.; adults climb from 1 to 2 p.m.

• Sunday, Dec. 11 — Body Pump day.

Watch or try Les Mills Body Pump.

• Monday, Dec. 12 — Teen challenge.

The teen activity will be a surprise.
