University drive collects 225 pounds of food for charity

November 29, 2011

The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown student council recently sponsored a community food drive.

The food drive included four universities at USMH and the USMH staff.

Each team was provided a decorated box in the lobby for donations.

In the spirit of competition, each box was weighed daily, and the results were posted on the in-house digital signs and on the USMH Facebook page. The contest was from Nov. 1 to 16.

Frostburg State University was the top donor, followed by Towson University at USMH. Approximately 225 pounds of nonperishable food items were collected and then delivered Nov. 18 to Food Resources Inc.

USMH is a regional higher education center in downtown Hagerstown offering 23 programs from five institutions within the University System of Maryland.

Partner institutions include Frostburg State University, Salisbury University, Towson University, University of Maryland, College Park and University of Maryland University College.
