Boonsboro’s annual Olde Tyme Christmas will take place Friday with a parade heralding Santa’s arrival on a fire truck beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Following the parade, Mayor Charles “Skip” Kauffman will light the town tree in the midst of live music, cookies, hot chocolate and lots of Christmas spirit. Enjoy the array of lights and luminaria while Santa visits with children by the fireplace in Pavilion 4 beside the Scout Cabin. The event is sponsored by the mayor and council.

Leo to speak

On Friday, the Rev. Leo Patalinghug will speak at 6 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro.

Leo is a priest in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, professor of pastoral theology at Mount St. Mary’s University and Seminary, an internationally known conference speaker, TV and radio personality, and the creator and host of the movement, “Grace Before Meals,” which inspires and strengthens family relationships around the dinner table.

Leo has appeared on PBS, ABC, CBS and also “The Food Network,” where he defeated the chef in a cooking competition titled “Throw Down with Bobby Flay.” Tickets cost $5 per person or $10 per family and are available by contacting Mary Ann DePasquale at 301-432-7201 or by e-mail at A potluck dinner will follow his talk.

Church has winter hours

Church of the Saviour in Rohrersville has published its regular winter hours. Sunday school begins at 9:15 a.m. each week. The chapel opens at 10 a.m. for quiet time before the 10:15 a.m. worship service. The church is at 4325 Main St. in Rohrersville.

Spaghetti dinner

Sharpsburg Little League will hold a spaghetti dinner to benefit a local family who lost their father and husband in a motorcycle accident this summer, leaving behind four children.  
The dinner will be held Sunday Dec. 11, at 3 p.m. at Dargan Fire Hall.

Tickets cost $8 for those ages 9 and older. Tickets for those ages 8 and younger pay by donation.
The menu includes salad, roll, drinks, and all-you-can-eat spaghetti. A bake sale will be held in conjunction with the dinner.  

All proceeds will be donated to the family.

Fundraiser for cheer squad

The Boonsboro High School cheerleading squad is selling Sheetz coupon books as a fundraiser.

The books cost $10 each and include discounts and offers worth $25, which make great stocking stuffers and gifts. To purchase a book, contact any BHS cheerleader or Tina Violet at 301-432-4578.
