Haven Lutheran to host holiday concert

A holiday concert with music provided by the Appalachian Wind Quintet and the Haven Lutheran Senior Choir will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, starting at 5 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown.

Selections of traditional and contemporary holiday music will be performed.

Following the concert, there will be light refreshments. As visitors leave the concert, the luminaria event at Rest Haven Cemetery will be on display.

The event is free and open to the public.

TOPS 0446

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446 had a weekly net loss of 16.6 pounds, which was due in part to the 6.8-pound loss of Barinda, the thinner winner.

Following discussion of the chapter’s Christmas luncheon and gift-giving plans,  Judy H. talked about her recent experiences that are resulting in lifestyle changes. Afterward, Mary led a discussion on motivation.

A weigh-in on Dec. 14 will take place between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m., followed by a Christmas luncheon at Always Ron’s at 11 a.m.

The group meets Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown. Weigh-in is from 8:45 to 9:20 a.m. For more information, call Mary or Tom at 301-797-2547 or Judy at 301-739-9279.

Christmas bazaar

A Christmas bazaar will be held at Coffman Nursing Home Friday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Crafts made by the nursing home residents, including jewelry, will be available for purchase.

There will also be baked goods and soup and sandwiches.

Proceeds go to support resident programs and activities.

The nursing home is next to North Hagerstown High School on Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown.

Food drive

Shape Up Shop Women’s Fitness, at 583 Northern Ave. in Hagerstown, is holding a Christmas food drive. Participants are asked to drop off canned/packaged food items and receive a coupon for a free week at the gym. This is for nonmembers only.      


TOPS 0077

Losses for the week were 21 1/2 pounds for TOPS Chapter 0077. Charles House and Carol LeClaire were the best TOPS losers. Kathy Renner and Deloris Hays were the best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers.  

Louise Horst gave a Pound Puppy to Janice Frye for encouragement. Louise Cline won the monthly drawing. Frye won the ha-ha prize. The no-no snack for the week is french fries.

Part of the day’s program consisted of a Chinese auction, which raised $171 for the chapter.

The remainder of the program was a discussion of holiday weight control strategies.

Donations continue to be accepted for the homeless shelter.

The group has changed the last meeting in December from Monday, Dec. 26, to Tuesday, Dec. 27.

The group meets Mondays at first Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.
