Harp scholarships available for students pursuing medical/health careers

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — The board of directors of the Dr. J. Elmer Harp Medical Center Inc. has announced that it will award three scholarships in 2012 for students pursuing a career in the medical/health field.  

Two scholarships will be awarded from the Dr. J. Elmer Harp Family Memorial Scholarship fund. One scholarship will be awarded from the Gloria M. “Stretch” Grossnickle Scholarship Fund. Each scholarship is valued at $8,000.

The Dr. J. Elmer Harp Family Memorial Scholarships were established by the estate of the late Jane. E. Harp, in honor of her father, J. Elmer Harp. J. Elmer Harp served the medical needs of Middletown, Md., families for more than 50 years.

The Gloria M. “Stretch” Grossnickle Scholarship Fund was established by William H. Browning to honor Grossnickle, a charter member of the board of directors of the medical center.  

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be residents of the Middletown area, enrolled in a college or university or a senior in high school who has applied to one or more post-secondary institutions, and must be pursuing a career in the medical/health field.
