Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - Nov. 26

November 26, 2011

Thumbs up to all of the participants in the 49th annual JFK 50 Mile ultramarathon. More than 850 people completed the grueling trek from Boonsboro to Williamsport along the Appalachian Trail, C&O Canal towpath and rural, paved roads.

Thumbs up to all of the churches and community organizations that hosted Thanksgiving meals for the less fortunate among us. Serving those in need, especially in these difficult economic times, is a commendable effort.

Thumbs up to the Smithsburg and North Hagerstown High School girls volleyball teams, which brought home state championships last weekend. Smithsburg claimed its third straight Class 1A crown, while North won its first title, in Class 3A.

Thumbs down to the person or people who last week stole Baby Jesus from the nativity scene in front of Central Presbyterian Church on Memorial Square in Chambersburg, Pa. The figurine went missing the day after the Norland Garden Club erected the creche.
