Ernest "Ernie" M. Ferguson, 90, of Keedysville, Md., passed from this life on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2011, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md.

Born June 4, 1921, in Mount Briar, Md., he was the son of the late Freeling and Effie L. (Smith) Ferguson. His wife, Rosie Mae (Long) Ferguson, preceded him in death in September 2004.

Mr. Ferguson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1942 until 1945. During his enlistment, he served at the Battle of Normandy as well as in other parts of France, Germany and Ireland.

He was an employee at Marquette Cement Manufacturing Co., retiring after 30 years of service.

Ernie had attended the Mount Briar First Church of God, and was a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro and the AMVETS Post 10 in Hagerstown.

He is survived by his nephew and caretakers, Thomas W. Bussard and his wife, Carolyn, of Sharpsburg, Md., and many other nieces and nephews.

Ernie is the last surviving member of his family, as in addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Grumbine, Mae Minnick, Bertha Bussard Rice and Gladys Hoffman; and six brothers, Stanford, John, Melvin, Harold, Howard, and Elmer Ferguson.

A graveside funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at the Boonsboro Cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Burdette will officiate. Military honors will be rendered by the Marine Corps League and AMVETS Post 10 of Hagerstown.
