Nevin Keller Lewis, 81, of Cavetown Church Road in Cavetown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at his home.

Born Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1930, in Cavetown, he was the son of the late Keller Lewis and the late Minnie Hoffman Lewis.

In 1947, Nevin graduated from Smithsburg High School. He was a lifelong fruit farmer and was the owner and operator of Lewis Orchards and Farm Market near Cavetown. He was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Cavetown, and attended St. Paul’s Free Lutheran Church in Leitersburg, and Christ Community Church and Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene with his children. Nevin also was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau, Maryland Horticultural Society, National Peach Council, Chewsville Cooperative Association, Salem Lodge 196, AF & AM, for more than 50 years, Hagerstown Forest 95, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, BPO Elks Lodge 378, Fairview Sportsmen’s Association, life member of the North American Rod & Gun Club and the South Mountain Rod & Gun Club. He was also a life member of the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co., and a charter member and past president of the Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services. He was a former member of Community Rescue Service in the 1950s and early ’60s, where he met his loving wife, Shirley.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Y. Lewis; daughter, Sherryl A. Shriver and husband, Ray, of Smithsburg; sons, Kevin W. Lewis and wife, Cindy, of Smithsburg, and Steven K. Lewis and wife, Christina, of Cavetown; sister, Anna Jane Huff of Cavetown; granddaughter, Rachael A. Horner and husband, Jared; grandson, Ricky W. Lewis and wife, Kathryn; granddaughter, Julie Y. Lewis; grandsons, Andrew N. Lewis, Matthew L. Shriver, Phillip K. Shriver and Jacob H. Shriver; granddaughters, Heather L. Lewis, Megan B. Lewis, and Stephanie K. Lewis; great-granddaughters, Madalyn Y. Yeagy and Rebekah A. Yeagy; and great-grandson, Brayden W. Horner.

Services will be Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Christ Reformed Church United Church of Christ, 22514 Cavetown Church Road, Cavetown, with the Rev. Raymond H. Shriver officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Christ Reformed Church Cemetery, Cavetown.
