Driver killed in fiery crash on I-270 in Frederick Co.

FREDERICK, Md. — The driver of a car which had been reported stolen earlier in the day in Virginia died Wednesday night when the car went off Interstate 270 south of Park Mills Road in Frederick County, Md., and burst into flames, according to Maryland State Police.

State Police said in a news release that they were not releasing the name of the person killed in the crash, which occurred about 9 p.m.

The driver of the red 2000 Toyota Corolla was observed by several witnesses driving recklessly on northbound I-270, police said.

The car was also seen side-swiping another vehicle, police said.

The Corolla went off the right side of the road, struck several small trees and burst into flames, police said.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was partially thrown from the car, police said.
An investigation is continuing, police said.
