Merle G. Barlup, 93, of Beaverbrook Drive, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at his home.
Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Phillip Keller and Sophie (Walters) Barlup.
He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, Class of 1936.
He retired from Prudential Insurance Co., and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and the Commission on Aging.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn M. (Willard) Barlup, whom he married April 5, 1956; son, Phillip K. Barlup and wife, Julie, of Smithsburg; daughter, Gina M. Barlup Lauth and husband, Martin, of Lake Mary, Fla.; grandchildren, Amanda Barlup Donegan and husband, Doug, Kristen Lauth Noe and husband, Kevin, Ryan Lauth, and Amy Lauth Adrian and husband, Mark; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Fritz and Pauline Gabriel; and three brothers, Gerald Barlup, Russell Barlup and Ralph Barlup.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Church of God, 24107 Foxville Road, Smithsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742; or to the American Red Cross, 1131 Conrad Court, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
