Car runs off eastbound Interstate 70

Nobody was injured in an accident on eastbound Interstate 70 Friday morning between Exits 28 (to Downsville Pike) and 29 (to Sharpsburg Pike), Trooper Bussard of the Maryland State Police said.

The driver of a car traveling in the left lane fell asleep at the wheel, Bussard said.

The car then spun across the interstate and slid down am embankment on the right side of the highway.

The car was upright off the side of the interstate on a hill and will be towed away, Bussard said.

Traffic was not affected by the accident.

The accident happened at 9 a.m. Friday.

A paramedic unit from the Volunteer Fire Co, of Halfway was on the scene with a firetruck from the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co., but both engines cleared the scene by 9:15.
