HAGERSTOWN — A man who escaped last week from the Thomas B. Finan Center in Cumberland, Md., was captured Wednesday morning in downtown Hagerstown, Police Chief Arthur Smith said.

Muslim Ali Brunson was captured without incident shortly after 10 a.m. in the 100 block of East Franklin Street, Smith said.

“No one was hurt,” Smith said. “He’s being returned to the hospital.”

The Finan Center is operated by the Maryland Department of Mental Health and Hygiene. It is a psychiatric facility that serves people with mental illnesses.

Smith said a caller notified police about Brunson’s whereabouts after seeing a photograph of Brunson that the media posted on Tuesday.

Smith said Brunson was staying in Hagerstown with an acquaintance.
