W.Va. inmate charged with sneaking drugs into jail

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities said an inmate who tried to smuggle drugs and a syringe into the Eastern Regional Jail is facing additional charges.

Franklin Brad-Michael Minch, 24, of Hedgesville, W.Va., could get 15 years if convicted of possession with intent to deliver and one to five years if convicted of bringing unauthorized items into the jail.

The Journal of Martinsburg reported that Minch had been incarcerated since July on burglary and conspiracy charges.

State police were called to the jail Sunday when a visitor was seen passing him something.

Court records indicate a subsequent strip search revealed a cigar tube in the inmate’s underwear.
It held plastic bags with about three dozen pills, a powdery substance believed to be heroin, a needle and a syringe.
