Smithsburg man killed, two injured in Md. 66 crash

SMITHSBURG — A Smithsburg man died Tuesday afternoon and two others were injured in a head-on collision on Md. 66, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

George Masser, 77, of Smithsburg was riding in the front passenger seat of a Nissan Altima that was struck Tuesday near the intersection of Md. 66 and Republican Avenue, police said.

A Ford Mustang driven by Gabrielle Weaver, 20, of Falling Waters, W.Va., was traveling southbound on Md. 66 at about 5:39 p.m. Tuesday when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center line and struck the Nissan head-on, police said.

Monte Masser, 54, of Smithsburg was driving the Nissan at the time of the crash, police said.

Both Monte Masser and George Masser were taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, police said.

Monte Masser sustained nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

Martha Masser, 48, of Smithsburg, was in the back seat of the Nissan at the time of the crash and also sustained nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
