Barbara Anne Hixon, 65, of Fayetteville, Pa., passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Chambersburg Hospital after a courageous six-month battle with cancer.
 
Born Aug. 5, 1946, in Orchard Park, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Robert T. and Marian L. Clauss Noll.

Barbara was a graduate of D’Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y., where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. After several years as a devoted special-education teacher, she chose to focus on what was her greatest accomplishment and joy, her home and family. In recent years, Barbara enjoyed volunteering her time with  Hospice of the Good Shepherd, spending as much time as possible with her family and traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her loving husband of more than 43 years, Robert A. Hixon, whom she married Dec. 26, 1967; three children, Scott Hixon (wife, Tracy, and sons, Christopher and Nicholas) of Acworth, Ga., Andie Snyder (husband, Matt, and sons, Jack and Drew) and David Hixon (wife, Sara, and children, Ethan, Landon and Mallory), all of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Jeanne Garich (husband, Peter) of Smiths Grove, Ky.; mother-in-law, Ruth E. Hixon of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and other extended family.

The family will welcome friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa. A memorial service will follow at 8 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Keith Carroll will officiate. Interment will be private.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the John L. and Cora I. Grove Cancer Center, 755 Norland Ave., Suite 100, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
