Mr. John Patrick Martell, 72, of New Market, Md., passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 15, 1939, at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C.

He was the son of the late Herman Martell and Mercedes McDaniel Martell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Martell.

He grew up and attended schools in Wheaton, Md.

He attended Montgomery College and later became employed with the Washington Gas Co., working as a service technician and a sales representative. After his retirement, he continued working in the field for Mindte Heating and Air Conditioning.

John was known for his kind heart, and humorous and positive outlook. He was a great friend, caring and supportive father, wonderful brother and loving uncle. He enjoyed time with his wife traveling, boating and fishing, watching NASCAR, the Redskins and golf. He especially enjoyed woodworking. He cherished time with family and friends, and relished time with his grandchildren.

Surviving is one sister, Rosemary Eisele of Ellicott City, Md.; son, Michael Martell and his wife, Renee, of Hagerstown, Md.; daughter, Lisa Martell of Frederick, Md.; stepson, Michael Hancock and wife, Jessica, of Gaithersburg, Md.; and stepdaughters, Alison Hancock of Gaithersburg and Beth Hancock of Olney, Md. He is also survived by grandchildren, Devon, John Michael, Bill, Tori, Devin, Ashton, Jackson and Sydney.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Nov. 19, 2011, at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. The family will receive guests at 10:30 a.m. and the service will begin at 11 a.m.
