Glen Robert Smith, 70, of 17417 Lappans Road, Fairplay, Md., died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born Aug. 8, 1941, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Ralph A. and Hazel Cline Smith.
He was employed with Kaemph and Harris for 23 years, retiring in 2009. Prior to this, he was employed with Horn Corporation in Hagerstown.
He was a member of St. James Brethren Church.
Glen enjoyed hunting, and was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the cabin that he and his brother, Ralph, built.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Maxine Smith; one daughter, Sheryl Buhrman and husband, Brian, of Hagerstown; two sons, Dale Smith and wife, Sandy, of Boonsboro, Md. and Dave Smith and wife, Marlina, of Boonsboro; one sister, Nancy Hart of Clear Spring, Md.; one brother, Ralph F. Smith of Fairplay; two half sisters, Joann Resau of Downsville, Md. and Debbie Kinzer of Hagerstown; one half brother, Kenny Smith of Downsville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Keeney and Doris Sounders; two brothers, Elmer Smith and Marvin Smith; and stepmother, Helen Smith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p. m.
