Hagerstown announces street closures

November 10, 2011

The city of Hagerstown has provided the following information about upcoming road closures:

• Weather permitting, work crews from Craig Paving Inc. Saturday will install new pavement overlay on Manor Drive between Dual Highway and Pangborn Boulevard.

• On Monday, Nov. 14, new pavement will be installed on South Edgewood Drive between Paul Smith Boulevard and the Hagerstown city limits near Funkstown. Temporary lane closures will be required to complete the work, and motorists will be directed around the work areas.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the work zones where the paving operations are being performed; however, dispatchers are cautioned that traffic congestion and delays are possible near these areas.

• Brandenburg Industrial Service Co., the contractor for the demolition of the former Washington County Hospital complex, plans to demolish the buildings that front on East Baltimore Street over the next few weeks.

Given the height of the buildings and their proximity to the street, Brandenburg has requested the daytime closure of East Baltimore Street between King Street and Mill Street for the following time periods:

• Nov. 14-18

• Nov. 21-23

• Nov. 28-Dec. 2

Each day, beginning at 7 a.m., this portion of street will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians to allow the contractor's equipment to safely demolish the adjoining buildings.

The street will remain closed until about 6 p.m. each day. A detour plan will be implemented to direct motorists around the work area via other city streets.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through this section of East Baltimore Street while these closures are in effect.
