Santa arrives at mall Saturday

Santa Claus makes his way to Halfway this weekend. The community is invited to Valley Mall Saturday at 9:45 a.m. for Santa's arrival.

Santa will pull into the Valley Mall station on his holiday train to greet families and pose for professional photos.

In addition to Santa Claus arriving, children are invited to participate in a holiday craft time from 10:30 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 301-582-0700 or go to www.shopthevalleymall.com.

Hickory Elementary to host Veterans Day event

Hickory Elementary School's third-grade class will host a "Tribute to Our Veterans" concert today at 7 p.m. Admission is free. The students will be singing patriotic music, including military theme songs. All veterans and active duty servicemen and women in attendance will receive a certificate from the students honoring them for their service. For more information, call 301-766-8198.

Antiques and collectibles show planned for weekend

The inaugural antiques and collectibles show takes place Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St. (U.S. 11).

Antique dealers will offer their merchandise for sale. There will also be homemade foods, baked goods, door prizes and raffles.

Admission costs $2.50 per person, 12 years and older.

Appraisals will be conducted Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Vernon Lewis for Civil War and related items; Betty Bachtell for fine jewelry and sterling; and Alesia Permansu for glassware, vintage linens, clothing and collectibles. Appraisal cost is $5 for each item.

All proceeds will benefit Kinder Haven Child Care Center.

Hickory Elementary plans spirit day Nov. 19

Hickory Elementary School  will hold Spirit Day Friday, Nov. 19. Students  are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team apparel.
