Potomac Bridals, a business specializing in wedding dresses, prom dresses and tuxedo rentals, will move from Public Square in Hagerstown to another part of the city, Hagerstown Community & Economic Development Director John Lestitian said.

Lestitian said he believed that the owners of the bridal shop intend to move to the former Richardson's Restaurant site at 710 Dual Highway by the end of the year.

The owners of Potomac Bridals, which is closed on Wednesdays, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Lestitian said city officials will work to bring another tenant to the building.

"The issue now is to back-fill that building," he said.

Potomac Bridals is one of several downtown businesses that recently announced plans to leave the core of the city.

Hagerstown City Councilwoman Ashley Haywood said in September that she was closing her coffee shop on the square at the end of October.

R. Bruce Carson Jewelers, a downtown merchant since 1902, ended retail activity at its shop on the square July 1, moving sales to its Stonehouse Square store off Leitersburg Pike.

Lena's of Hagerstown, a clothing boutique at 59 N. Potomac St., moved in October to 1303 Pennsylvania Ave. Lena's had been at its downtown site for more than 50 years.
