Charles Lee Crider, 76, of Strasburg, Va., and formerly of Smithsburg, Md., passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at the VA Medical Center of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 14, 1935, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Woodrow W. and Kathryn L. (Kelser) Crider.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae (Brewer) Crider, who passed away in July 2002; and a son, Michael D. Crider.
He was a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, Class of 1953.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He retired from Mack Trucks Inc. of Hagerstown.
He was a former member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211, Hagerstown American Legion Post 42 and Hagerstown AMVETS Post 10.
He attended Christ Reformed United Church of Christ of Cavetown before moving to Virginia. While in Virginia, he attended Happy Creek Primitive Baptist Church of Front Royal.
He is survived by son, Terry Lee Sylvester (Crider) and wife, Lori Sylvester, of Strasburg, Va.; daughter, Kimberly S. Crider-Ritter, of Baker, W.Va.; stepdaughter, Vicki Nemcek, of Hagerstown, Md.; brother, Woodrow Crider, of Waynesboro, Pa.; grandchildren, April Thompson, Jennifer Sylvester, Leanne Sylvester, Stacie Thompson, Kevin Jordon, Michelle Malloy, Michael D. Crider and Dawn Crider; stepgrandchild, Dale Nemcek Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at 1 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Elder Gary Utz officiating. Burial will be in Cavetown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
