Blazers, Warriors bounced in volleyball quarterfinals

PREP VOLLEYBALL

Mountain Ridge 3, Clear Spring 0

FROSTBURG, Md. — Seventh-seeded Blazers gave second-seeded Mountain Ridge all it could handle in the first two games but couldn’t close them out, then suffered a letdown in the third game of a 25-23, 26-24, 25-12 loss in the Maryland Class 1A West quarterfinals.

Kristen Mellott led Clear Spring (6-10) with seven kills and six blocks, while Alexa Mills had 13 digs and four kills. Sarah Blockenstaff had 12 digs, Kyleigh Stottlemyer had six blocks and Sarah Elwood added eight assists.

Fort Hill 3, Boonsboro 2

CUMBERLAND, Md. — The sixth-seeded Warriors gave the third-seeded Sentinels a stern test but fell just short in a 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-9 thriller in the Maryland Class 1A West quarterfinals.

Shannon O’Brien and Sydney Parks each had nine kills and five blocks, while Taylor Williams had 11 kills and Aurelie King added seven kills for Boonsboro (7-9). Shelby Griffith had 19 assists and Shelby Wallace added 16 digs. Tiffany Rohrer anchored the defense with 29 digs and Amber Myers added eight digs and five aces.



MEN’S SOCCER

HCC places three on Region team

Three Hagerstown Community College players received All-Region XX honors, announced Monday.

Sophomores Zach Morgan and Garrett Hajjar were named to the region first team. Freshman Mamadou Jallow was a second-team selection.
