Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - Nov. 5

November 05, 2011

Thumbs up - To the folks who participated in the dog walk last Saturday in Chambersburg, Pa., in spite of the snow and cold, to raise money for the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.

Thumbs down - To those who drive their children around to various neighborhoods for trick-or-treating — and even on more than one night. Unless you live in a rural area with few close neighbors, trick-or-treat should be limited to your own neighborhood.

Thumbs up - To the Alsatia Club for the awesome Mummers Parade adventure they bring to our community every fall, except this one, which was canceled by the October snow storm. The event is a lot of work every year and the club deserves a commendation for its decades of service to the community.

Thumbs up - To members of the Pennsylvania House and Senate for approving — although a little late — a bill that would make texting while driving a primary offense, meaning that police can pull over motorists for that offense alone. This might not eliminate all texting while driving, but hopefully, it will give pause to drivers to put the phone down, or pull off to the side off the road.
