Violet Arbutus Kemp, 88, of 947 Chestnut St. in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday evening, Nov. 4, 2011, peacefully at her home.

Born Jan. 8, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harlan Thomas and Katie Virginia Kreglo Harr.

She was employed by Interwoven Hosiery of Hagerstown, and as a clerk by the Sunshine Laundromat in the South End Shopping Center, retiring in 2003.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon E. Smith and husband, Richard, Faye L. Stottlemyer and husband Butch, and Linda C. Kemp; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland H. Kemp, who passed away March 6, 1974.

She was the last surviving member of her family, which included three brothers, Thomas, Ralph and Robert Harr; and two sisters, Mildred Rinehart and Hazel Butts.

Private viewing will be held, only for family, at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Graveside services will be held with the Rev. Randall Reid officiating at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
