Williamsport's Hardy wins 2A West boys race

PREP CROSS COUNTRY

MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Williamsport’s Evan Hardy won the boys race in 15:26.3 at the Maryland Class 2A West region championships Thursday, leading the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the field of 12 teams.

Winters Mill, the defending 2A state champ, won with 59 points, followed by Williamsport (78) and Poolesville (102).

Also for Williamsport, Cody Bowman was 12th (16:16.6), Cody Grams was 18th (16:33.0), Clayton Smith was 21st (16:43.7) and Caleb Buchman was 26th (16:53.0).

Catoctin’s David Dorsey finished second to Hardy in 15:42.7.

Winters Mill’s Hannah Oneda won the girls race in 17:00.7, while South Carroll edged Liberty 75-77 for the team title.

Williamsport didn’t qualify any girls for states. The Wildcats finished 10th in the team standings, led by Meggan Grams’ 31st-place finish (20:20.4).



PREP VOLLEYBALL

South Hagerstown 3, Seneca Valley 0

GERMANTOWN, Md. — Victoria Pearl had 12 assists to lead South Hagerstown in a 25-13, 25-16, 25-18 sweep of Seneca Valley in the first round of the Maryland Class 3A West playoffs.

Hayley Freeman had 10 service points, Chelsea Scott had six kills and Regan Marshalleck had 12 digs for the Rebels (3-13).



GIRLS SOCCER

Northern Garrett 2, Smithsburg 1

ACCIDENT, Md. — Top-seeded Northern Garrett edged Smithsburg (5-10-1) in the Maryland Class 1A West semifinals and will host second-seeded Brunswick next week in the region final.

Peddie School 4, Mercersburg 1

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Lola Tijani scored the lone goal for Mercersburg Academy (7-8) in a loss to Peddie School (11-5).


BOYS SOCCER

Mercersburg 2, Goretti 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Breno Calagari and Chris Hackett both scored as Mercersburg Academy shut out St. Maria Goretti to claim the inaugural IPSL Championship.

Evan Moats had an assist for the Blue Storm, who had a 27-0 shot advantage.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Syd Godbey had 10 saves for Mercersburg Academy in a loss to Peddie School.
