HALFWAY — Hopewell Road, which has remained closed under the Interstate 70 bridge for longer than a month, should reopen sometime in December, Maryland State Highway Administration spokesperson Geoff McCammon said Thursday.

The SHA expects the road to reopen by the end of the year, but it could open later if weather becomes a problem.

It will most likely open by early December, however, if everything goes smoothly, according to McCammon.

"We are lowering the road about a foot," he said. "We are also planning to widen the Interstate 70 bridge over it."

The road is being lowered to allow room for workers to widen the bridge, McCammon said.

The work is part of a project that also includes widening the Interstate 81 ramps at Exit 5 (Halfway Boulevard).

Pessoa Construction has been contracted by the Maryland State Highway Administration to work on the project, which is scheduled to be completed by October 2012, according to the administration's website,
