The bridge at the intersection of Mount Tabor Road and Rush Run Road is exepcted to reopen by late November or early December, according to Scott Hobbs, chief of engineering for the Washington County Engineering Department.

The bridge was closed in late August after a chance inspection revealed that the steel beams supporting the deck had been corroded, according to the county's website,

The steel beams and deck have been removed and are being replaced.

According to a published report in September, closing the bridge potentially saved lives, as it was not scheduled for inspection until 2012.

Building Systems, Inc. of Hagerstown was issued an emergency bid of $87,600 from the county in September to work on the project, according to a county commissioners summary on Sept. 13.

Motorists have been advised to use the Spade Road detour while the bridge is worked on.
