Mail Call - Nov. 3

November 02, 2011

“The majority of people at the Occupy Wall Street protests are bums who just want something for nothing. We’ve always had some people like that in our country, but with the poor moral values they learned from their parents, now this generation is not even ashamed to demand that someone else owes them a living.”
— North End

“Thanks to the Hagerstown City Council ... at least 12 Washington County employees will lose their jobs ... to Pennsylvania. So hopefully next time around they’ll lose their job.”
— Hagerstown

“To the Hancock caller who said about American people won’t work unless they get high-paying jobs: We can’t afford low-paying jobs. We don’t get help with insurance, education and perks we don’t know of. We don’t live in this country illegally, either.”
— Washington County

“Advocates of traffic circles should understand that the sites they are proposing are intersections, not circles. You slow traffic with speed limits and stop signs. Traffic circles are used to direct traffic where there are multiple converging streets.”
— Hagerstown

“I thought I was having a nightmare, but I circled an article in The Herald-Mail, and it says ‘Md. panels calls for hikes in gas tax, motorist fees.’ ... They’re going to raise gas tax? Emission fees, from $14 to $28? They’re going to raise transfer title fees? Let’s see, everybody’s hurting right now, and we are broke, we can’t afford this. Why doesn’t Maryland cut back on something, instead of passing the cost on to the people who can’t afford it? They’re going to raise emissions from $14 to $28? That is insane.”
— Hagerstown

“Well, I see it didn’t take Gov. O’Malley long, his second term, to start hitting the Maryland people with more taxes and more taxes and more taxes. ... When’s it going to stop? Marylanders, get on the phone and go to Annapolis and tell them enough is enough.”
— Hagerstown

“Clinton will always be to blame for the 9/11 attacks. His failure to take custody of bin Laden, on two separate occasions, makes him directly responsible for all the pain and death. He should be serving life in prison on 2,977 charges of negligent homicide.”
— Hagerstown

“Mr. President, get off the airplane, get off the bus. It’s time for you to get after Congress and do something about inflation. Pretty soon we’re going to have to take a wheelbarrow full of $1 bills to buy a loaf of bread. It’s ridiculous. Get on Congress’ back as hard as you can, but get off the road and do something.”
— Hagerstown

“This is in response to the person calling saying they haven’t been getting their mail. Same thing happened to us about two years ago. For like two or three weeks, we didn’t get any mail. So I called the post office, and they had the supervisor come out and check. We had a substitute, and the substitute was just hiding the mail so he didn’t have to come any further. So you might want to contact your post office and talk to a supervisor and see what’s going on.”
