CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Monica Miller, a senior at Shalom Christian Academy, recently was named a commended student in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Patty Flood, Shalom high’s principal, will present a letter of commendation to Miller from Shalom and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program.



NORFOLK, Va. — Stephen Andrews Adair recently received his master’s degree of education in sports management from Old Dominion University.

Adair is a 1997 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, and has a bachelor of arts degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia Beach, Va.

Adair is an instructor at the Elite IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he lives with his wife, Jessica, and their two children. He is the son of Robert and Nancy Adair of Hagerstown.



YORK, Pa. — The following area students, all first-year students at York College, received academic scholarships from the college:

— Kayla Baer of Shippensburg, Pa., a nursing major and graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School, received the Dean’s Scholarship.

— Debra Buchanan of Greencastle, Pa., a nursing major and graduate of James Buchanan High School, received the Dean’s Scholarship.

— Carly Farr of Thurmont, Md., a marketing major and graduate of Catoctin High School, received the Presidential Scholarship.

— Kelly Powell of Mount Airy, Md., an electrical engineering major and graduate of Urbana High School, received the Electrical and Computer Engineering Scholarship.

— Eric Trate of Fayetteville, Pa., a mass communications major and graduate of Chambersburg (Pa.) Area Senior High School, received the Presidential Scholarship.

— Charles Warburton of Frederick, Md., an undeclared major and graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School, received the Dean’s Scholarship.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Marcy McLaughlin, a senior economics major from Mercersburg, Pa., recently was inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the economics honor society at Lycoming College.



PHILADELPHIA — MinJun Chen of Chambersburg, Pa., recently was named to the dean’s list for the summer semester at University of the Sciences.

Chen is a doctor of pharmacy student.
