This year's Mummers Parade has been canceled due to snow, Alsatia Club Parade Chairman James G. McCleaf II said Saturday morning.

The Alsatia Club made the decision in consultation with the City of Hagerstown due to safety concerns, McCleaf said. Organizers were concerned that, with snow expected to continue through Saturday evening and leaves still on the trees, the snow could lead to broken tree limbs and downed power lines.

"The parade was for the kids, and we don't want kids getting hurt," McCleaf said.

McCleaf said there were no plans to reschedule the parade.

"We never had a contingency plan for snow in October, but we will work on one for next year," he said.

Parade seating tickets can be refunded at the Maryland Theatre, starting on Tuesday, the club said in a press release.
