Mail Call - Oct. 26

October 25, 2011

“In regards to the Washington County citizen, about the elementary school lunches, my daughter’s in fourth grade and she doesn’t eat lunch until 12:45, and they go home at (2:20) just like your child does. I feel that it is ridiculous that they have to wait from 8 o’clock until 12:45 to eat lunch. Even though she may be older, it is ridiculous.”
— Clear Spring

“Years ago there was a ... drive-through on the Dual Highway, so why can’t Sonic have one there now? Anybody tell me why? Also, there’s way too many ... motorcycle accidents. A lot of it is people not paying attention to what they’re doing. Last is, Tuesday’s paper, the 18th, it’s good to see that the young man — and he is a young man, he’s not a boy — he will be charged as an adult, and that’s the way it should be. Have a good day.”
— Hancock

“This is in response to the person from Garden Spot development who would like to have the Washington County airport shut down. My husband and I have been residents of the Garden Spot development for over 17 years, and we do not have a problem with the airport, or the airplanes flying.”
— Maugansville

“To the residents at the Garden Spot development at the edge of Maugansville: The question should be who was there first, the airport or the development? It sounds as though you people are like those who move to an area where there is a stone quarry or a hog farm, knowing what the conditions are, and then want to change them. I think you need to get a life, or move.”
— Williamsport

“Once again, another shooting on or near Jonathan Street. I live near this area and have for the last eight years, and we used to see police officers in the area, but ever since they do not patrol as often, there has been a large increase in crime and drug dealing in the area. Along with this you have individuals parking untagged vehicles on Hamilton Lane for days on end and have (no) respect for posted signs or the proper direction in which to park. This area was quiet, but over the last several years a lot of activity has been going on. ... I have a lot of respect for HPD and think they do an excellent job, and hopefully they will make more of a presence in this area.”
— Hagerstown

“Just wondered if anyone could give me any information as far as why we used to get mail at 12 to 12:30 in the afternoon, and it’s getting later and later every day. Last night I didn’t get my mail until 10 of 7. Just wondered if anyone knew what was going on with the city of Hagerstown mail.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling about the person from Hagerstown, about their mail being not delivered, and possibly being stolen. I am having the same issue. A lot of days we get nothing, and other days we get a lot of mail. It’s almost as if the mail carrier is not delivering mail. And we were supposed to have a package delivered, and when we went online it says that it has been delivered, and we never received it.”
— Greencastle, Pa.

“I am so happy to hear that Gov. O’Malley has chosen to suppress the conservative voice of Western Maryland. By redrawing the 6th Congressional District, he has proven himself a true Democrat. Well done.”
— Fairplay

“Just calling about the person in the paper who sent money when they said they won money. You never, ever send money if you have won the lottery or anything else. I mean, how many times do you have to tell people? Never, ever send money. And another subject, the American people are complaining about the Hispanic workers in the USA, but the Hispanics do work, and that’s more than I can say about the American people who are always complaining. ... American workers don’t want to work, unless they make high wages. That’s the problem with this country. Nobody wants to start small.”
— Hancock

“President Obama has captured and killed more terrorists than George Bush ever did. He got them all. And he’s keeping us safe, safer than what George Bush did, because if you remember, 9/11 happened under George Bush’s watch. None of these things that Obama did couldn’t have been done without President Obama giving the order to do it.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“When you can’t follow your mail or your missing mail, I don’t know if it’s always wise to blame the post office. I’m sure there’s not everybody working there that’s perfect, but my problems have been when I send a card to my mother in the nursing home, she never gets it. So when I go to visit her, which is quite often, I just take the card with me, and she enjoys it just as much. And also in my neighborhood, there were kids going around getting in people’s mailboxes during the day.”
— Hagerstown

“To the Hagerstown caller who was in Friday’s Mail Call: They were right, the Bible doesn’t say the Lord helps those who help themselves. That came from Benjamin Franklin.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.
