Motorist flees scene after hitting vehicles parked on Locust Street

Several vehicles parked in the 200 block of South Locust Street in Hagerstown were struck Tuesday afternoon by another vehicle that left the scene, according to city police.

The motorist driving the vehicle that left was identified by a witness and later found in the 400 block of Guilford Avenue, said Sgt. Stuart Heckman, a spokesman for the Hagerstown Police Department.

The driver, whose name was unavailable Tuesday night, was charged with hit and run, Heckman said.

Three parked cars were reportedly struck in the incident, which was reported at 5:09 p.m., he said.


Man robs Pa. store armed with baseball bat

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a man who robbed Varner's Country Store in Letterkenny Township Monday evening while armed with a baseball bat.

The incident occurred at 7:15 p.m., when the man walked into the store at 11195 Forge Hill Road, demanded cash from an employee and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, according to a news release from state police.

Troopers said the man was white, more than 6 feet tall and had a thin to medium build. He was wearing a black ski mask and a black hooded sweat shirt.

Copper pipe pilfered from house in Franklin Co.

FANNETTSBURG, Pa. — Copper pipe valued at about $500 was stolen from a Fannett Township house between Oct. 3 and last Wednesday, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The lock to a basement door was picked to get inside the house in the 16000 block of Hill Road, troopers said. The pipes were cut and removed from the basement.

Cash stolen in Fulton Co. burglary

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police in Fulton County are investigating a residential burglary that occurred Tuesday in Ayr Township.

Troopers said $100 was stolen from the residence of a 24-year-old man in the 5300 block of Cito Road between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. It was not known how the residence was entered, troopers said.

Handguns, TV stolen from Pa. home

GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Two handguns and a television were reported stolen in a residential burglary Wednesday in Antrim Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The front-door glass of the home in the 3300 block of Coseytown Road was broken to gain entry between 9 a.m. and 7:15 p.m., troopers said.

Hagerstown police respond to incidents

The Hagerstown Police Department responded to the following incidents, according to spokeswoman Barbara Pickett:

Oct. 17:

• An arrest was made following a second-degree assault resulting from a domestic incident in the 400 block of Kinslow Street.

Oct. 18:

• A wanted person was arrested in the 300 block of Reynolds Avenue.

• Cash was stolen in the 400 block of Sumans Avenue.

• A person was arrested following a domestic second-degree assault incident in the first block of East Washington Street.

• An unattended death was reported in the first block of East Washington Street.

• Damage to property was reported in the 200 block of James Street.

• A burglary was reported in the 100 block of King Street.

• A burglary was reported on the third floor of a building in the 200 block of Summit Avenue.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported in the Central Lot.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported at Planet Fitness at 1121 Maryland Ave.

Oct. 19:

• A theft was reported at Byers Stop & Go at 152 N. Burhans Blvd.

• A theft was reported at Weis Markets on Shank Farm Way.

• A theft was reported at Elizabeth Court Apartments  at 55 E. Washington St.

• The warrant service arrested an individual in the 200 block of East Franklin Street.

Oct. 20:

• A burglary was reported at an apartment at Potomac Towers at 11 W. Baltimore St.

• An injured person was reported in the 50 block of East Washington Street.

• A theft of a cellphone was reported in the 100 block of Berkson Avenue.

• A 2004 black Dodge Neon was stolen in the 30 block of West Antietam Street.

• An assault was reported at an apartment in the 50 block of East Franklin Street.

• A theft from a vehicle was reported at Classy Nails at 1636 Wesel Blvd.

• A burglary was reported in an apartment in the 100 block of Broadway.

• A back-door window was damaged in the 200 block of Willard Street.
